Personal Counseling

Personal Counseling

Personal counseling is a process of self-discovery and growth. It can help increase self-confidence, improve relationships, solve problems, achieve educational goals, and make good decisions for emotional, intellectual, and physical well-being.

Middle school can be a very difficult time for many students. It's a time of personal exploration, a time to seek out one's own identity, and physiologically a time of rapid growth. These changes can produce both insecurity and fear.

Our goal at Sam Brannan Middle School is to provide support for students both individually and in group settings. We provide students with a safe space to talk about their feelings and provide them with information about coping strategies, especially if they have undergone some element of stress or tragedy. We also work to create positive peer relationships and strive to resolve conflicts quickly and in a manner that teaches respect and resilience.

During this age, many students begin relying more heavily on other students for guidance and acceptance than parents. Therefore, we feel it's important that we teach decision-making and critical thinking skills.

One of our strongest beliefs is that we can not do this work alone. This is a partnership. This website has a list of resources to help parents understand the changes you see in your children, provides resources to support you and your child should concerns arise, and offers ideas for prevention in the wellness section. Self-care is essential for both you and for your child.
